So, please forgive the less than ideal sound quality of our first outing. It’s just going to keep getting better!
SHOW NOTES: music credit to Paper Navy
topic: the measles outbreak which started in Disneyland
hat tips to Anne Rice and Neil Gamain
and our “oh by the way” moment
Great job guys! really enjoyed. I especially liked that you didn’t just rant about the topic but provided great support documentation, quotes and statistics. On a subject such as this thats crucial.
Only crit is to get the sound worked out. Very difficult to hear sometimes. And its very distracting when the two speakers are at different volumes and quality. We struggle with the same thing at Biters. Do you guys record using Skype?
One thing, not only is it a lack of or loss of belief in science or the fact that people no longer see the diseases like our parents or grand parents did. It’s the fact that people can get their information from Dr. Google, and the sheep mentality. You see it in EVERYTHING, not just vaccines. Negative political campaigns work, because people believe what they see being said on the TV, Radio, and other add spots.
So when it comes to things like vaccines, the parents who are well off enough to get the “real science from someone other than the doctor”, they believe it when they see, hear, read, or are told things like “your doctor gets paid by the drug companies for every shot he gives you” or “you don’t need these shots, the only thing that causes these diseases are the vaccines themselves”. I’m not any sort of medical professional (although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last weekend) and I hear people that I know aren’t stupid making stupid statements about vaccines and politics, and other areas.
James–thanks so much for the listen. Please pass our info on so others get the message. Lack of faith in science and lack understanding about HOW science adapts is startling and depressing.
Hey, thanks, Kirk! We really appreciate that you listened, esp. as I wait anxiously (not blowin’ smoke) for Biters every week.
We used Skype and Audacity. Todd is getting a better headset and I think that is going to make a difference. Any tips of the trade (you can email) would be totally welcome!
